Transportation carton drop test standard:
Take a full packed random carton from the master cartons as testing sample, test it on area with a flat and hard floor. Drop the carton from the selected height 10 times from different sides.The products must be checked for 
defects before testing to ensure normal functionality and packaging. 
Usually, ISTA 1A (International Safe Transit Association) is widely adopted, its standard suits as below:
Scope:  For all products with regular master cartons
Testing method:  1 corner(weakest corner), 3 edges for the corner, 6 faces.

Drop Height Standards:

ISTA 1A suits for package weight 68kg or less, drop test height per below chart:

Checking after Drop Test:
Open the carton to verify the condition of products and packaging inside the carton.The carton drop test FAILs if any of the following are found after the drop:

1.Damage to export cartons/ inner/retail boxes.
2.Deformation, scratches, dents or other damage to products inside.
3.Products are not functional or have problems related to functionality.

Quality Control Checklist

After deciding the sample size based on AQL tables, here we need to Identify/choose the number of products to be inspected.

1. Select the right quantity of cartons

At least the square root of the total number of cartons(Example: at least 9 cartons if there is a total of 80 cartons.), or otherwise defined by client, in the shipment are randomly selected and opened. The inner content is checked for correct quantity and assortment. The samples are selected proportionally from the opened cartons. If the sum of opened cartons cannot give the sufficient number of sample size, cartons should be opened until the quantity is met.

2. Randomly select the cartons from the pallets

Select the cartons randomly, for example, from the front and back, top and down, right, let and inside of the pallet, not just from the same position of the pallet.

If the goods are not 100% packed, also need to select the samples from the unpacked products according to the ratio of packed and unpacked pieces.

For example, if there are 200 pcs among 4000 to be inspected, and there are just 3000pcs packed into cartons, and 1000pcs ready to be packed, have to select 150 pieces from cartons and 50 unpacked pieces.

3. Randomly select the products from selected cartons

During the selection of products from cartons, need randomly pick up the pieces, for example, from each lay or each poly bag of product, to represent the real product quality situation as maximum as possible.


Quality Inspection AQL standard

Eagle Eyes use the well-proven and widely adopted international standard ANSI/ASQ Z1.4-2008 (equivalent to MIL-STD-105e, ISO2859, NF06-022, BS6001, DIN40080, and GB2828) to measure the acceptable quality level of the products inspected.

Definition and application of ‘AQL’

The “AQL tables” are statistical tools at the disposal of buyers (for product inspections).The limit, is called the ‘AQL’. It stands for ‘Acceptance Quality Limit’, and is defined as the “quality level that is the worst tolerable” (ISO 2859 standard). General Inspection Level II is usually applied to determine the inspection sample size for cosmetic and functional check. Special Inspection Level will be applied for safety, reliability, performance or other special test if whereas applicable.

In practice, three types of defects are distinguished. For most consumer goods, the default limits are:

  • 0% for critical defects (totally unacceptable: a user might get harmed, or regulations are not respected).
  • 2.5% for major defects (these products would usually not be considered acceptable by the end user).
  • 4.0% for minor defects (there is some departure from specifications, but most users would not mind it).

How do I determine the right sample size and acceptance number?

These proportions vary in function of the product and its market. Components used in building an airplane are subject to much lower AQL limits. Yet, consumer products are subject to a higher AQL limits

For example, if there’s an order with 6,000 products(See Table A above), then according to the default sampling technique(level II, Major 2.5%, Minor 4.0%), the sample size will be: 200 products(See Table B above). The maximum acceptable defective number will be:

Critical: 0 defective products (above 1 Critical defects, order considered rejected.)

Major: 10 defective products (above 11 Major defects, order considered rejected.)

Minor: 14 defective products (above 15 Minor defects, order considered rejected.)

If the quality passes inspection, the lot is accepted, it is commonly perceived that there is a maximum of 2.5% of defective units in the lot (with a failure risk percentage of less than 5%).

If the quality fails inspection, the lot is rejected, it is required that the supplier should rework the whole lot to fix the defectives instead of reworking on the AQL sample size inspected only. A Re-inspection afterwards is strongly suggested.

Note:  A Defective is defined as a unit of product that contains one or more defects.  A Defect is defined as any non-conformance of the inspected unit of product with  specified requirements.  A single defect is taken into account per each defective unit, If the same sample has several defects, only the most serious defect is counted. In the case of critical defects, the entire shipment must be rejected as a matter of principle and clients shall consult for a decision.

2. How do I get started and what are all the steps?

Eagle Eyes inspectors conduct the inspection work and provide detailed and thorough report to client within 24hours.

3. How many days ahead should I place the booking? And when should I pay for an inspection? How can I pay for an inspection order?
A completed booking form with all relevant order details/inspection requirements is required to send to Eagle Eyes office at least 3 working days before the planned inspection date. The earlier you placed the booking, the better we could prepare and ensure the required schedule.

Usually confirmation and payment to our service 4 working days prior to the inspection date is requested. You will receive one invoice before inspection, This invoice is payable upon receipt by Bank Transfer, PayPal or Western Union.

4.Do you offer monthly payment? For new and occasional clients, payment prior to the inspection date is always requested. For regular and VIP clients who book regular inspections and have been working with us for an extended period of time, monthly payment will be discussed. Monthly invoice should be paid within 4 work days after issued to VIP clients.

5.What information does your inspection report include? Our reports are very detailed, illustrated with pictures and figures. Pre-shipment inspection (PSI), also called final random inspection(FRI), is a part of supply chain management and an important and reliable quality control method for verifying goods’ quality before you settle final payment. To catch production problems early, you can use During Production Inspection service.

7. How many days prior to loading/shipment day is good to carry out pre-shipment inspection?   Pre-shipment inspection (PSI) is always conducted when the goods is 100% finished and 80% packed into master cartons at least (if there is more than one item, at least 80% of each item must be packed into master cartons) prior to inspector’s arrival.  It is set default as inspection condition. Some clients require Pre-shipment inspection (PSI) when the consignment is above 80% finished and 80% packed. Some clients require Pre-shipment inspection (PSI) when the consignment is 100% finished and 100% packed. It is suggested Pre-shipment inspection should happen at least 2 days before loading date, so clients have time to review the report and the problems found during the inspection can be remedied by factory before shipment.

8. How does sampling work during an inspection? Eagle Eyes use the well-proven and widely adopted international standard ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-2003 (equivalent to MIL-STD-105e, ISO2859, NF06-022, BS6001, DIN40080, and GB2828) to measure the acceptable quality level of the products we inspect. This standard and its equivalence are designed according to the statistics theory and are indexed with AQL table. The sampling plans in these standards indicates the number of units of products from each lot or batch which are to be inspected (sample size) and the criteria for determination of the acceptability of the lot or batch.

9. What are your Inspection Services Coverage? Coastal provinces and Major manufacturing cities across China.

10. What if the lot quality fails inspection? If the quality fails inspection, it is required that the supplier should rework the whole lot to fix the defectives instead of reworking on the AQL sample sizes inspected only. It is recommended that client requires re-inspection after one failed inspection, so the factory’s correction of non-confirming issues can be justified. Re-inspection always happen a few days after the failed inspection date.

11. What happens if non-confirming goods are found when the shipment arrives? It is extremely rare that non-conforming goods Or unexpected rates of defectives make it out of the factory after eagle eyes quality inspection. In the vast majority of cases, the root reasons turn out to be damage during shipping or shipments were approved after a failed inspection and the buyer trust the factory (who was likely supposed to rework the goods) enough to ship without having performed a re-inspection or a defect sorting service. Therefore, we highly recommend you to book re-inspection or defect sorting service after a failed inspection and to work with your shipping partners to insure the product against damage in transit.
